Thomas Coleman: The colony’s Master of Arms, and a member of the council.

 

Dame Coleman: The wife of Thomas Coleman, and the oldest gentlewoman in the Roanoke Colony.

 

Parson George Martin: The colony’s protestant priest, and a member of the council.

 

Mark Bennett: The colony’s most educated member, and schoolteacher.

 

Old Tom: The oldest colonist in Roanoke Colony.

 

Margery Harvie: Recently widowed, she was the wife of Dionysius Harvie.

 

Michael Bishop: A common man in the Roanoke Colony.

 

Margaret Lawrence: The Dare household servant girl.

 

Elizabeth Glane: A young woman in the Roanoke Colony.

 

Rose Payne: An even younger woman in the Roanoke Colony.

 

Indians

 

Wanchese: The King of the Powhatan tribes, and one of the two Indians taken back to England. He is also the brother of Wingia, the previous Powhatan King, who was killed by the first colony. He has sworn to drive the English from Roanoke.

 

Uppowoc: The chief medicine man of the Powhatans.

 

Chogan: A brave of the Powhatan tribe.

 

Manteo: The Chief of the Croatoan tribe, and one of the two Indians taken back to England by the first expedition.

 

Agona: A squaw of the Croatoan tribe.
